I have a mid 2014 MacBook Pro (retina, 2.5Ghz i7, 16GB) and am looking to hook up two external monitors to it. I've been looking at 2x Dell Ultrasharp U2518D's https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07436JM8Z/
Before I go ahead an order – I just want to double check that my MacBook can power them. According to the specs on the Apple site it "Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors".
Given the monitors I'm looking at are 2560 x 1440, it should be OK to power those + my built in retina display (at 1440 x 900)?
What the best in terms of connectivity? I assume using both the thunderbolt ports would be best? That would loose my ethernet connection though; so I was thinking 1x Thunderbolt and 1x HDMI. The only thing that concerns me about running 1 over HDMI is this from the specs: "HDMI video output:, Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz, Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz, Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz" – am I right in thinking my monitors (at 2560 x 1440) wouldn't get 60Hz if run over HDMI?
