IKEA Unveils Its First Skateboard & Basketball In Streetwear-Themed Collection

IKEA is making flat-pack wares cool again as it kicks a new minimalist, streetwear-themed collaboration into gear.

Teaming up with Los Angeles-based designer Chris Stamp of fashion label Stampd, the Swedish home solutions giant has unveiled ‘SPÄNST’, a home collection made specially to fit your too-cool-for-school Instagram aesthetic.

The capsule hits all the right notes at affordable, IKEA prices, with an all-black shoe rack, skateboard, basketball hoop, mesh wardrobe, and more.

“The idea behind the collection is for IKEA to reimagine how the younger, aesthetic, conscience, consumer is organizing their wardrobe and accessories at home,” the designer described in a press statement.

“I want them to be able to take pride in how they display their clothing and footwear, allowing them to appreciate their pieces just as much when they’re not being worn.”

Stamp is especially proud of the capsule’s clear, acrylic storage units, which are made for flaunting your sneakers with. He calls them a “no brainer” and a “necessary closet luxury.”

The clean-cut series is expected to drop on 1 May 2018 in the US, and will be IKEA’s first international move into streetwear grounds. View some pieces below and find out more here.

Another one of my favorites from this collection is the acrylic shoe box. It’s simple, but a necessary closet luxury. It’s hard not to want 10, for just the start of your collection. Seemed like a no brainer idea that should have already been done, but they hadn’t been done like this. Now they’ll be available for everyone. Limited release tomorrow at the Burbank Ikea from 6-8pm and worldwide starting May 1st. #SPÄNST
