‘The Simpsons’-Style Characters Star In Its Creator’s New Netflix Animation

The official Twitter account of Disenchantment—upcoming adult Netflix animation spearheaded by The Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening—has teased first look at the character designs for the series.

The first tweet comprises three cropped images of various characters with the caption, “A princess, an elf, and a demon walk into a bar…” The subsequent tweet reveals three complete images with the words, “Art thou ready for this? August 17.”

The character designs are reminiscent of those from The Simpsons, which has become the longest-running scripted primetime television series in the US.

Rough Draft Studios that’s also behind Futurama is in charge of animation for Disenchantment, which has been commissioned by Netflix for 20 episodes spanning two series.

The plot is set in a less-than-stellar medieval kingdom called ‘Dreamland’ and revolves around princess ‘Bean’, her elf sidekick ‘Elfo’, as well as personal demon ‘Luci’. Together, they take on fantasy beasts such as ogres, trolls, imps, and more.

Disenchantment centers on life, death, love, sex, and how to keep laughing even in the face of suffering, stupidity, and terrible advice from jerks.
