‘Coca-Cola Clear’ Lets You Taste The Feeling Of Coke At Max Transparency

Japan’s beverage industry has been cashing in on the country’s minimalist culture with see-through “milk” tea, drinkable yogurt, latte, and beer. Now, the latest to ride on this bizarre wave is the Coca-Cola Company, which has just debuted its own colorless cola.

‘Coca-Cola Clear’ promises the zest and sparkle of the iconic drink, minus the deep-brown hue and calories—yes, it’s even as guilt-free as water.

The brand described that it painstakingly took over 50 recipes before the perfect one was found. Traditionally, caramel goes into Coca-Cola, but the addition of this ingredient would taint the color of the new variation.

To amp up the cola’s flavor profile without using caramel, the company opted for lemon juice. The drink is hence more citrusy than the classic.

This isn’t the first time the brand has teased a clear cola, though. In April, it mailed a parcel containing ‘Untested Transparent Coke’ to a lucky fan—but it turned out to be a prank, and all the recipient got was empty packaging.

Luckily for everyone else, the company is just intending to fool your sight and not your tastebuds. ‘Coca-Cola Clear’ will launch in Japan on 11 June 2018. Can you taste the feeling of excitement in the air yet?
