Anthony Bourdain, the talented storyteller, writer, celebrity chef and host of the award-winning CNN series Parts Unknown, has passed away, reports CNN.

It confirmed that Bourdain’s close friend and French chef Eric Ripert had found the 61-year-old unresponsive inside his hotel room on Friday morning. Bourdain was in France filming an upcoming episode for the 11th season of Parts Unknown. The cause of death has been reported as suicide.

Fans and celebrities including Gordon Ramsay, Nigella Lawson and painter John Lurie have expressed their disbelief and heartbreak to the news.

Bourdain had apparently purchased one of Lurie’s artworks poignantly titled, The sky is falling, I am learning to live with it, one week before his passing.

Two hours ago, CNN issued an official statement on Twitter, “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain.”

“His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller.”

“His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Earlier this week, the world was greatly saddened by news of fashion designer Kate Spade’s sudden death by suicide. Husband Andy Spade shared that Kate had been battling with depression and anxiety for years through an issued statement.
