June 2018: What’s new in GoCentral

Whether you love or loathe home improvement projects, you’ve got to admit — there’s something really satisfying about a drastic transformation. (Hence entire TV networks devoted to the subject.) On a smaller scale, even new throw pillows can change the vibe of a drab room.

Your website is a little bit like your home. It’s an opportunity to express your personality and show who you are. And it’s always a work in progress. That’s why the GoCentral team continues to release new tools to help make your website really you.

Website Builder

GoCentral Website Builder keeps getting better. Here are a few new features to try.

Online Appointments updates: PayPal integration, more flexible timing

The GoCentral Online Appointments tool (available for Business Plus and Online Store plans) now includes a PayPal integration, which means you can use PayPal as your payment processor and your clients can choose to pay via PayPal if they like.

If you’re new to GoCentral, you can connect your PayPal account during initial setup. If you’re already using GoCentral, you’ll need to connect your PayPal account and then republish your website. To connect PayPal:

  1. From your My Site menu, click Appointments.
  2. On the top navigation bar, click Settings and select Appointment Payments.
  3. Choose either “Require full payment” or “Require deposit.”
  4. Decide whether you’d like to get with Square or PayPal. Click Connect.
  5. Follow the prompts to connect your account.
  6. When you’re done, Publish your website again to make the changes live.

Online Appointments just became more flexible in terms of timing. Previously, appointments were available at 30-minute intervals. Now you can set your appointment interval to 15 minutes, 30 minutes or one hour. (Choosing 15 minutes will give your clients more appointment options.) To try it:

  1. From your My Site menu, click Appointments.
  2. On the top navigation bar, click Settings and select Availability.
  3. Click on the General tab and look for the Scheduling area.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to choose your appointment interval.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Publish your website again to make the changes live.

Blog update: Category-specific content

Last month, we announced that you can organize your GoCentral blog posts into categories. Now, you can create separate blog areas on your website for each category. For instance, if you own a pet-related business, you could create blog posts in a “dogs” category and a “cats” category. Then you can devote a page of your website to your dog blog and another page to your cat blog. To set it up:

  1. Create one or more blog posts and assign a category.
  2. Choose the Page where you want your category-specific blog section to appear.
  3. Click Add Section.
  4. Select Blog and choose a layout.
  5. Use the “Show posts from” drop-down menu (shown below) to select the blog category you want to include.
  6. Hit Publish.

Internal links and anchor tags

With this feature, you can easily create a link to another page of your site. You can also create a link to a specific section of a page. (These section-specific links are often called “anchor tags” or “anchor links.”) The links can be added to any text in the website Editor. Benefit: You can create a more guided experience for your website visitors and highlight related content they might enjoy. To give it a try:

  1. From your website Editor, select the Page and Section you wish to edit.
  2. In the content editing area, select the text where you’d like the link to appear, as shown below.
  3. Click on the link icon (circled in red below).
  4. You will see the option to link to a Page on your website.
  5. Use the drop-down menus to select the appropriate Page and Section.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When you’re done editing, hit Publish.

Text alignment in About and Content sections

You’ve got your own style, and we’ve heard you loud and clear: you want to control your text alignment. Text alignment is now available in About and Content sections. To do:

  1. From your website Editor, select a Page and any About or Content section you wish to edit.
  2. Near the top of the Editor, you may choose your text Alignment (along with Layout and Accent color).
  3. Select the appropriate Alignment icon (Left, Centered or Right).
  4. Click Done.
  5. Hit Publish.

Contact form update: Thank-you message formatting (including links)

This update allows you to format the thank-you message website visitors see after submitting a contact form on your site. This allows you to add a link to the message, as shown in the image below. (In this example, people who submit the form receive access to a free ebook via a link.) To create a new Contact form, check out this Help article. To format an existing thank-you message:

  1. From your website Editor, select the Page that contains your existing Contact Us section.
  2. Click on the Contact Us section.
  3. Toward the bottom of the Editor, click on Contact Form.
  4. In the Thank You Message field, format your text. To include a link, highlight the text and click the link icon. Choose the Page and Section where you want the link to go. (Or enter a website URL.)
  5. Click Done.
  6. Hit Publish.

Here are a few fun facts about Rachel:

  • Is particularly great at: Seeing GoCentral through the eyes of our customers. I try to stay close to our customers so I can feel their frustrations and delights. This motivates me to do whatever it takes to help our customers come away feeling great about using our products and succeeding online.
  • Hails from: Long Island, New York. My accent is not very thick, but it definitely comes out with words like coffee (cawfee), talk (tawk) and water. (I don’t even know how to phonetically spell that last one since it sounds so weird when I say it.)
  • Dreams about: Helping my kids grow up to become adults that are self-motivated, thoughtful, interesting and kind. I also dream about one day having a retirement condo on the beach in Southern California and also one in NYC.
  • Loves GoCentral because: It’s so easy for busy people to get a professional and beautiful website without spending a ton of money or needing heavy technical skills.
