Upgraded from late 2009 Mac Mini
Parent's computer was sucking pretty hard at doing basic tasks lately so it was the time to upgrade. Apple seemingly abandoned making computers ("what's a computer?") so it's not like it made sense to dump over $1500CAD to buy Mini from 4 years ago that sucked to begin with.
So we went from: 2.26 GHz Intel 2 Duo, 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 and 256GB Intel 320 SSD (while 6GB of ram is possible I had no luck with kits I tried).
To: 3.5Ghz Ryzen 2200G, 8GB 3200Mhz DDR4, 1TB MX500 M.2 SSD all packed into InWin Chopin case that I had to order from UK as there's nothing in Canada.
So far it seems to be pretty great. It sucks switching from MacOS, but Win10 is not that bad these days. Much harder to fuck it up compared to WinXP (reason why I got them Mini in the first place). Had issues getting older HP printer working and no luck finding Epson scanner drivers. But I can plug Model M keyboard in now!
Computer as a whole is not as quiet as I'd like to. Not much louder than Mini, but I discovered that PSU has a tiny 40mm fan that is rather audible. Bundled CPU fan has a distinct whirling sound to it too.
RIP Mac Mini. You served well for almost a decade. New PC should even longer as it's actually upgradable.
