After president Donald Trump’s ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy towards immigration families took effect, images showing immigrant children being separated from their parents surfaced online, causing massive public outcry that included responses from artists and illustrators.

One photo in particular, which shows children sleeping in a large cage and keeping themselves warm with foil blankets, was shared on Twitter. These blankets are the same thermal blankets that travelers usually carry when they are going on camping trips. Writer Orli Matlow, however, noticed that these blankets look strikingly similar to the US$5,000 metallic Carolina Herrera dress worn by Ivanka Trump back in January 2017.

Matlow tweeted a side-by-side image of the immigrant children and Ivanka with the caption, “Who wore it better: Children detained in McAllen, Texas or Ivanka Trump.”

The tweet immediately gained traction on the social network, with other Twitter users making brutal and hilarious comments.
