Quick Tip: Create a Color Scheme From an Image
In this quick tip I’m going to demonstrate something really useful, a technique I use regularly: how to create a color scheme from an image.

Why might you need this? Imagine, for example, that you’re doing some design work (web design, or print, or whatever) and it’s for something seasonal, like an event which takes place in autumn (or “fall”, depending on where you’re from). You could attempt to blindly create a seasonal color scheme based on your experience, or you could use the colors from a specifically “autumnal” image. After all, Mother Nature is a superb artist.
Using an online tool called HueSnap, that’s what we’re going to do.

As soon as you visit the tool, right off the bat you can choose from a huge selection of color schemes:
To create your own click Create Palette, then upload an image from your computer. Once your image is uploaded you can click areas of the image to pick colors from it–you’ll be given the hex and the RGB values of whatever pixel you clicked. When you’re happy with your color, hit the plus (+) button and that color will be added to your scheme.
Continue adding colors to your scheme by clicking on the image and confirming whenever you’re happy with what’s chosen. When you’re finished, you can save your scheme, though you will need to be logged in–either sign in, or create an account if needed.
You can alter your saved scheme, or create other schemes based on the colors you’ve selected. All in all, this is a quick and useful tool which will save you a lot of time if you’re in need of some color inspiration!
