Being comfortable in one’s skin is a long-term project. In a move to encourage self-love, Australian friends Bonnie, Penny, and Roseanna have started ‘Positively Glittered’, an ongoing series that covers people of diverse shapes and sizes in glitter.

In hopes to guide people into embracing curves and knobbly bits in the same way many are in awe of glitter, the team of mothers invites individuals of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, and body types to be part of the project.

For Bonnie, the thought of getting naked in front of her friends was daunting at first, but slapping on the shimmery material soon gave her a confidence boost.

She says turning body parts that one would have initially seen in a negatively light into “shining works of art” helped renew what her perception herself. “And it also really helped others too.”

Participants usually arrive at the shoots feeling reserved, but are all smiles once they have their sparkly makeovers. “You see the confidence ooze out of them,” Bonnie adds.

Thus far, the series spotlights women and anyone who identifies with the term, though ‘Positively Glittered’ is working on a project that includes men.
