IKEA Recalls Pet Water Dispenser After Design Leads To Two Fatal Dog Incidents
IKEA has announced the global recall of its ‘LURVIG Water Dispenser for Pets’ after two dogs tragically died from using the product.
The dogs’ heads had gotten stuck in the product’s dome, which caused them to suffocate. The locations of the incidents remain undisclosed.
IKEA urges all customers who had bought the item to return it to its store for a full refund.
The ‘LURVIG Water Dispenser for Pets’ comprises two components—a transparent container that ends in a dome, which leads to its base that serves as a water bowl. The container dispenses water into the bowl as and when required, thus making it more convenient for owners of cats and dogs.
It was launched last October at US$7.99 under its ‘LURVIG’ collection that consists of pet-related products such as beds for canines, houses for cats, leashes, collars, and more. At that time, the brand asserted that all the products were designed “with the assistance of trained veterinarian Dr Barbara Schäfer, who also works with product risk assessment.”
The ‘LURVIG Water Dispenser for Pets’ is no longer available on its catalog.
