“Handy for feuds and strife.”
Revealed on the official Rockstar Games website, the developer confirmed that there are over 50 unique usable weapons with a slew of customization options and multiple types of ammunition that can affect damage, range and accuracy.
Interestingly, the more a gun is used, the better it will perform for the player. Unfortunately, if it’s used too much and not properly attended to, it will begin to degrade over time – oiling and cleaning it will be the trick to keeping it in good condition.
Weapon customization can be both practical and aesthetic. Useful upgrades include adding new barrels, grips, sights and scopes to various guns, while visual upgrades will allow users to add new metals, woods, varnishes and engravings to their guns.
Specific weapons and weapon types were mentioned, including a double-action revolver, sawed-off shotgun, varmint rifle, Springfield Rifle, bolt-action rifle, carbine repeater, cattleman revolver, pump-action shotgun and sniper rifle. Different ammo types, like split point, high velocity and explosive rounds, can all alter the effect of a weapon’s shot greatly.
Some weapons were given a situation in which they were particularly useful, like the double-action revolver being particularly good to shoot while riding a horse, or the varmint rifle naturally being adept at killing small game and doing minimal damage to the quality of its meat and skin. Usefully, scopes can be fitted to all types of rifle, letting players switch between scoped and regular aiming at any time.
The Dead Eye system was also given an extended explanation. Dead Eye targeting was used both in Red Dead Revolver and the original Red Dead Redemption, and allows players to slow down time to get more accurate shots on enemies. The system now “gradually expands and becomes more sophisticated over the course of the game, from automatically selecting targets in your crosshairs, to allowing you to manually place shots on multiple targets, to being able to shoot at will in slow motion, and ultimately to pinpointing the weak spots on your enemies for even deadlier accuracy.”
