How to Make a Movie Poster Online With a Poster Creator

If you want to learn how to create a movie poster, in this tutorial I’ll show you how to do it using a very simple poster creator. Placeit is an online editor with mockup templates, flyer templates, and, importantly for us, movie poster templates. These templates are easy to customize to make your poster look good with very little effort. Let me show you how to make a movie poster step by step!
Follow along with this tutorial over on our Envato Tuts+ YouTube Channel:
Step 1
Go to Placeit.net and click Designs.

Step 2
There are many templates ready to be edited, but today we’re interested in posters specifically. To narrow down the search, find Poster Maker on the list of templates.

Step 3
Scroll through the list and see if you like any of the templates. I decided that the first one, Horror Film Poster Template, is the closest to my concept. To edit the template that you’ve chosen, just click it.

Step 4
This template is very straightforward. You can change the background, text, font, color, and position of all the elements. Let’s start with the background. The template includes a lot of high-resolution images that you can use, and you can also add your own photo if you like. I decided to use one of the examples because it fits my idea quite well.

Step 5
After you’ve chosen the background, it’s time to adjust the text elements. Let’s start with the title of the movie. Change the text to the one you need.

Step 6
Make sure to select the right font for your text. It must fit the title and the atmosphere of the poster.

Step 7
Adjust the color, too. It must contrast with the background to make the text easy to read. Red looked nice, but I decided to accentuate the cool color scheme with classic white.

Step 8
The text above the title looks a little too high. You can easily grab it and drag it to the right position. A guideline should appear to help you center the text.

Step 9
Change the text above the title, if you need, and adjust its font. Sometimes, changing the font affects the layout, so that you have to adjust its position manually. To change the size of an element, just drag one of its corners.

Step 10
Adjust the other elements the same way. Reposition them, change their size and font, and adjust their color to fit the color scheme of the whole poster.

Step 11
When you’re happy with your result, scroll up to click the Download button.

After this, you’ll have a chance to purchase your design as a high-resolution PNG file. You can use your subscription, or make a one-time payment to download the file.

Step 12
Additionally, if you want to better see how your design works in practice, you can always use one of the many mockup templates on Placeit. You can also use them to present your design to the client.

Good Job!
