Cyberpunk 2077 Quests Will Be as Long and Complex as The Witcher 3’s | Gaming News

2077 has become one of the most anticipated games of all time, promising to revolutionize the industry with its scope and detail. While the general public hasn't had the opportunity to see the game in motion, many publications, including Game Rant, have had the chance to see it first-hand, resulting in praise almost universally. So far, the only game that may be comparable is The Witcher 3, and CD Projekt Red has finally given some details on how the questing systems will stack up against one another.

Speaking in an interview, Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Patrick Mills compared the game's quests to those of The Witcher 3's expansions.

“What I would say is I'd expect something to similar to The Witcher 3, particularly in terms of playtime and in terms of quest complexity. Specifically, I'd even look more at the expansions than The Witcher 3 base game because that's really where the quest design philosophy that we're using now came from—it was developed later in the expansions.”

Mills also touched on how the quest system has expanded, now allowing players to affect the plot through gameplay rather than just preset decision moments.

The ability to affect the outcome of a questline through actual gameplay is intriguing, to say the least. It would force players to face repercussions for their actions within the world, something that hasn't really been explored in big budget games.  If Cyberpunk 2077 is similar to The Witcher 3 in both size and scope, then the new quest system could be special. It would be able to capture the dynamic feeling of the world and make it feel like interacting with real people rather than just NPC's.

On the other hand, this means CD Projekt will need to put a lot more effort into their narrative and world design. While they've never failed at this before, the change may prove to be difficult even for them. It'll be much more difficult to squash bugged quests and inconsistencies within the game's quests.

Between the trailers, previews, and developer interviews, all evidence seems to indicate that Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be the game the developers have promised. It may be a while before gamers can get their hands on it, but there will certainly be an uptick of doctor's notes when it does release.

Cyberpunk 2077 does not have a release date.
